When Jax Summer Night Lights kicks off this Friday, Family Support Services of North Florida (FSS) will be in the middle of the action at Mitchell Community Center and Park, 1010 Acorn Street. FSS, the lead agency for adoption, foster care and prevention in Duval and Nassau counties, will be providing games and a craft during each of the eight Friday and Saturday nights of the Summer Night Lights program. FSS is joining the City of Jacksonville and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office to provide activities for teens in neighborhoods identified as high-crime areas in an effort to reduce gang activity and crime and provide opportunities for kids to have a good time in safe environment. “As part of our preventive services to strengthen and stabilize families, we want to engage local kids in fun and safe activities within their community,” said Jim Adams, FSS chief executive officer. “We encourage families to participate in the Summer Night Lights program and enjoy the games and activities. Breakfast Learning Series: Scholarships and Mentors for Low Income Children - FSS Nassau Office

The Nassau County office of Family Support Services of North Florida (FSS) will focus attention on scholarships and mentors for low income children at its Breakfast Learning Series on Tuesday, July 27 at 9 a.m. The monthly educational program for social services professionals, foster/adoptive parents, relative caregivers and foster/adoptive-parents-to-be will be held at the FSS – Nassau Office, 86004 Christian Way in Yulee. Continental breakfast and networking begin at 8:30 a.m. Local staff from Take Stock in Children -- Jody Mackel, program manager, and Donna Given, student advocate -- will discuss the scholarships, mentors and other programs offered in Nassau County by Take Stock in Children. The non-profit has served 16,000 low income children in Florida throughout 67 counties. Social services professionals, foster and adoptive parents/parents-to-be or relative caregivers interested in attending the Breakfast Learning Series can register to attend by calling 225-5347 by July 23. The Breakfast Learning Series is offered by the FSS – Nassau Office on the fourth Tuesday of every month. The office is located in the Lofton Professional Plaza, off A1A, 2-1/2 miles east of Highway17. The FSS – Nassau Office serves the Nassau County community as a local resource center for child protection services and family preventive services by partnering with other area social services agencies, such as Children’s Home Society and Micah’s Place. FSS is the lead agency providing foster care, adoption and prevention services in Nassau County and Duval County.
